Director, Search & Evaluation
Location: Hybrid

Reporting to the CBO, the Search & Evaluation Lead will support the identification and evaluation of new business opportunities and enabling technologies in genetic medicines and related areas that are a good strategic fit with Code Bio’s strategy or provide entry into new therapeutic areas or additional modalities for both pipeline and platform expansion.

S/he will coordinate and/or lead the internal evaluation of new technologies with R&D scientists, and initiate and manage due diligence activities.   The person in this role will effectively interface with internal stakeholders in the technical, legal, finance, and manufacturing disciplines to enable the completion of diligence activities for new opportunities.  The individual will build and maintain competitive intelligence databases to ensure relevant external perspectives are analyzed and understood.

The individual may also contribute to term sheet discussions, financial analysis to value opportunities, and contract negotiations for potential collaborations with selected third parties as required. 

Responsibilities
1.) Identify and Lead Technology Evaluations:
  • Work with the CBO in the identification of new business opportunities that are a good strategic fit with Code Bio’s strategy for either pipeline or platform expansion

  • Evaluate technologies, IP, competitive landscape and partnerships for strategic fit with Code Bio’s pipeline and platform

  • Evaluate scientific rationale and/or technical feasibility of relevant opportunities

  • Assess opportunities, outline key strategic objectives and operational plans, identify critical issues and prepare business case presentations/recommendations for internal Code Bio and Board level discussions.

  • Manage technology evaluation and/or due diligence teams, define, lead and track progress of activities as appropriate

  • Build and maintain databases of relevant competitive intelligence to support the ongoing evaluation of opportunities.  Provide updates and analyses of competitive intelligence events to Code Bio leadership

  • As needed, support dialogs around term sheets, deal values and contract negotiations with third parties

      

2.) Search and Evaluation Capability Building:

  • Maintain database of key business transactions and scientific value drivers across the biotechnology industry

  • Attend relevant industry scientific and/or medical and partnering conferences

  • Develop fit-for-purpose, scalable processes and ways of working for Code Bio as it relates to technology evaluations and due diligence

  • Perform other duties and requirements as assigned

Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. (preferred); with generally 2-4 years life sciences (pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology) industry experience in research and development, search and evaluation, or business development or related roles OR:

  • MS; with generally 4-6 years life sciences (pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology) industry experience in research and development, search and evaluation, or business development or related role

  • Demonstrated understanding of new technologies/science in biotechnology/gene therapy and drug development

  • Strong project management capabilities with demonstrated ability to build internal relationships and influence without direct authority
