The primary role of the Research Scientist is to plan, organize and carry out scientific research (under general supervision) to support the research and development of Code Bio’s innovative non-viral gene therapy approach. The Research Scientist role includes executing in vitro and in vivo studies, assay development, working collaboratively both internally and externally. As part of the Research team, the Scientist will engage in multidisciplinary collaborations across functional groups.

The primary responsibilities of the Research Scientist will include, but are not limited to:

  • Work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team to evaluate non-viral gene therapies using our patented DNA scaffold technology.

  • Develop research and analytical methods to assess functionality and durability of genetic payloads.

  • Divide time between both laboratory work and study design and data analysis,

  • Perform in vitro assays of gene and protein expression including Western analysis, qPCR, qRT-PCR, ELISA, microscopy, luciferase, SEAP, and other cell-based functionality assays.

  • Research, design, and execute approaches to siRNA, gene transfer and delivery of gene editing payloads to diverse cell types in vitro and in vivo.

  • Collaborate and manage projects between industry, academia, and internal partners.

  • Design and test protocols for transfer to the CROs, and Development team.

  • Maintain data acquisition and analysis in electronic laboratory notebook.

  • Design experiments, analyze data, troubleshoot, author study protocols and maintain detailed records for technical documents.

  • Provide training on a variety of skills and methods to junior laboratory personnel.

  • Present scientific data at internal and external meetings/conferences.

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and communication skills

  • Self-starter and ability to work independently and multitask in a highly entrepreneurial environment

  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and the development of cell-based assays

  • Experience with standard molecular techniques: DNA/RNA isolation, quantitative PCR, Western blotting, fluorescence microscopy

  • Experience with various plate-based assay screens (i.e., fluorescence, luminescence, and/or ELISA)

  • Experience in molecular cloning and designing expression vectors

  • Preferred experience with non-viral vectors, AAV, and/or vaccine development

  • Preferred experience with ddPCR, molecular assays, vector and transgene design and preparation

  • Preferred experience in assay development

  • Preferred ability to design, coordinate, and interpret animal studies
